Judges Responsibilities

Currently, the district is staffed by 14 U.S. District Judges, half of whom are senior judges, and 17 Magistrate Judges. Their duties include conducting bail hearings, trials, managing pre-trial proceedings, ruling on motions, and issuing legal opinions, all dedicated to upholding justice and legal integrity.

Courthouse Locations

The main courthouse, the Sam M. Gibbons U.S. Courthouse, is located in Tampa. There are additional divisions in Orlando, Jacksonville, Fort Myers, and Ocala. The courthouses operate from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., while the clerk’s offices are open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Federal Public Defender’s Office

Posting Bail Bonds

If your loved one was given bond in the Middle District of Florida all necessary documents for bond fulfillment must be presented at the Criminal Intake window. This process should be carried out in person from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For bail payments, only cashier’s checks or money orders are accepted. It’s important to note that cash amounts exceeding $5,000 and personal checks are not permissible.
